Strahan is a small town and working port that serves as the gateway to the stunning UNESCO Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Located approximately 4.5 hours from Hobart or Launceston, Strahan Village is located in the heart of Strahan and offers an abundance of character and unique stories of the area’s pioneering history. With 132 guest rooms, 4 food and beverage outlets and the award winning Gordon River Cruises experience, this unique destination offers every opportunity to fall in love with the charm and beauty of Tasmania’s west coast.
We’re hiring multiple casual team members to join us from September, with staggered start dates over the coming months as we prepare for the busy summer season. If you're passionate about hospitality, thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy creating memorable experiences for guests, we'd love to hear from you.
To make the most of the season, you'll ideally commit for at least six months, including the Christmas and New Year period. Staff accommodation is available and couple applications are welcome.
We’re on the lookout for:
- Experienced Bartenders with a passion for premium service and great beverage knowledge
- Wait Staff with experience in restaurants, events, functions or banquets
- Skilled Baristas who can confidently manage high-volume coffee service
What you’ll do:
You'll have the opportunity to work in one or more of our unique food and beverage venues, each offering a distinct guest experience:
View 42 Restaurant & Lounge Bar serves a hearty breakfast buffet and its renowned dinner buffet, making it a popular choice for tour groups and large bookings. The Lounge Bar delivers a premium experience, featuring contemporary cocktails, a curated selection of Tasmanian wines and one of the most breathtaking views on Tasmania's West Coast. Guests can unwind by the wood fire while enjoying pre-dinner drinks and light meals.
Hamer's Bar & Bistro offers a relaxed and welcoming dining experience in the heart of Strahan Village. Serving classic bistro and pub favourites alongside local Tasmanian wines, beers and spirits, it's a popular gathering place for guests and locals alike. Known for its genuine hospitality and laid-back atmosphere, Hamer's captures the true character of Tasmania's West Coast.
The Kitchen Cafe is a popular casual dining venue within Strahan Village, offering freshly made barista coffee, light meals and grab-and-go options throughout the day. With its relaxed atmosphere and friendly service, it's the perfect place for guests to start their morning or enjoy a leisurely lunch.
No matter which venue you're working in, you'll create genuine connections with guests, provide personalised service and help deliver the warm hospitality we're known for. During peak periods, you'll confidently multitask, work efficiently as part of a team and maintain high service standards in a fast-paced environment.
On a daily basis you will:
- Deliver exceptional food and beverage service to guests
- Accurately process orders and handle cashiering responsibilities
- Set up and reset restaurant, function and event spaces as required
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation across all venues
- Ensure buffet areas, dining spaces and service stations are well stocked and guest-ready
- Contribute to a positive team environment and memorable guest experiences
What you’ll bring:
- Food and beverage service experience with a passion for great food showcasing local produce
- Strong bar, cocktail and mixology experience
- Barista skills (ability to manage high number of orders in a short window)
- Understanding of sequence of service principles and general service operations
- Previous experience working functions, events or large groups
- Physical strength is essential for setting up and relocating tables and chairs.
- A vibrant attitude with the ability to work effectively as part of a busy team
- Genuine interest and knowledge of beverage products such as spirits, beer, and wine.
- A reputation for providing excellent customer service, engaging in great conversations with our guests
- Valid Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate
- Possess a Do Food Safely Certificate of completion
- Australian driver’s license
- Flexible attitude to work hours over a 7-day roster, including weekends and public holidays
