The Power of Small - How Our Tow Team Is Driving Big Change

You might think towing is all about big rigs and heavy lifting. But for our Tow team, it’s about thinking smarter, not just bigger. That’s why they’ve rolled out a fleet of purpose-built cradle trucks - compact, hybrid, and custom-designed for hard-to-reach places like tight city streets and underground car parks.

Big impact, small footprint

Traditional tilt trays often can’t squeeze into the spaces our Members find themselves in. So, after identifying the need for a more agile solution, the team set to work designing something new - and uniquely fit for purpose.

  •  More agile: At 2.2 metres tall (compared to 2.7m tilt trays), they can reach tighter spaces.

  • More efficient: They’re 10–15% faster on average than tilt trays.

  • More capable: They can tow everything from 4WDs to EVs - up to 2.9 tonnes.

  • More sustainable: They’re hybrid-powered, aligning with our commitment to a greener future.

Designed by the best - our people

This innovation didn’t come from an outside agency or off-the-shelf solution. It came from our people.

With decades of towing experience between them, Moodi El-Ali (Supplier Relationship and Optimisation Manager) and Jai O’Keefe (Fleet Manager) led the charge - working alongside many others and partnering with a specialist vehicle builder to co-design and develop every detail.

From dolly wheel placement to a custom solution for towing motorcycles, no detail was too small. It’s a perfect example of our value One Step Ahead - using frontline insights to deliver better outcomes for our Members.

“Our people are the difference”

As Mark Harvey, Senior Manager of Towing, National Supply & Fleet, puts it: “Our team isn't just towing vehicles. They’re problem-solving and delivering reassurance on the spot. With the cradle trucks, we can improve the Member experience by extracting vehicles in a safer, more efficient way. I’m incredibly proud of the whole team, especially our drivers. Our people are the difference - their skills, safety-first mindset and commitment to helping Members is what makes our towing service best-in-class.”

And the industry’s taking notice. The team’s work was recently featured in a national motoring magazine, a proud moment for everyone involved.

If you’re passionate about making a difference and want to be part of a team that values innovation and impact, we’d love to hear from you!
