BUILDING A BRIGHTER FUTURE TOGETHER – FIRST NATIONS CAREERS AT THE NRMA

At the NRMA, we’re not just talking about Reconciliation - we’re living it. From recruitment to retention, we’re working hard to make sure First Nations Australians feel welcome, supported, and empowered.

Our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) outlines a future where First Nations Culture is seen, heard, and celebrated every day. We're committed to increasing Cultural competency, enhancing employment and training pathways, and enriching our workplace, Communities and Culture.  We’ve set ambitious goals, including growing our First Nations representation beyond the current 4.2% of our workforce.

Building a Better Way to Hire

We get that applying for jobs can be daunting - especially when you’re navigating things like Cultural safety, confidence, or past experiences. That’s why our First Nations Employment and Retention Strategy is all about making the recruitment process more inclusive and respectful.

Here are some of things we are doing to support you with your job search:

  • Partnering with First Nations communities and promoting vacancies on job platforms such as Koori Mail and DreamJobz for visibility and access.
  • Enabling the set-up of job alerts both internally and externally for our identified roles.
  • Participating in career and community events such as Koori Knockout, ACT Reconciliation Day, and NAIDOC Community events to provide more information about our businesses, roles and people.
  • Offering support through a dedicated First Nations Talent Acquisition Specialist for job applications, interviews, and onboarding processes.
  • Incorporating Cultural understanding in our recruitment process with a First Nations hiring panel.
  • Providing internship programs.

Once You’re Onboard, we’ve got your back!

Joining the NRMA is just the beginning!  We want to make sure you are supported every step of the way through:

  • A mentoring and buddy system, designed to assist you as a new employee to settle in and establish connections.
  • Support groups including Yarning Circles and RAP working groups, which provide you with a safe environment for sharing, connecting, and professional growth.
  • An Employee Assistance Program, offering a dedicated support line for First Nations employees and their families.

A Shared Journey

We know that Reconciliation is a journey, not a destination. By walking alongside First Nations peoples - listening, learning, and acting - we’re building a stronger, more inclusive future for all.

If you’re passionate about making a difference and want to be part of a team that values Culture, Connection, and Community, we’d love to hear from you.
