What You'll Do
Are you an experienced Employee Relations or Industrial Relations professional who enjoys navigating complex people matters, influencing leaders and finding practical, fair and commercially sound solutions?
We’re looking for a Senior Employee Relations Partner to join our People & Culture team and play a key role in supporting leaders and stakeholders across the NRMA Group.
This is a role for someone who brings strong technical expertise, sound judgement and a calm, considered approach to complex and sensitive matters. You’ll provide trusted advice across employee relations, industrial relations, payroll interpretation and workplace matters, helping our leaders make confident, compliant and people-centred decisions.
You’ll also be involved in complex case management, workplace investigations, external employment-related claims, enterprise bargaining and industrial negotiations — making this a great opportunity for someone who wants to work across both strategic and hands-on ER/IR matters.
This full-time permanent role offers flexibility to work from home and across NRMA offices, with attendance at our Sydney Olympic Park and Barrack Place offices as agreed and required for the role.
In this position, you’ll be a trusted advisor to People & Culture, leaders and business stakeholders, helping guide complex matters with confidence, care and commercial judgement. You will:
- Provide expert, pragmatic advice on complex and sensitive people matters, including performance, conduct, grievances, complaints and terminations
- Act as an escalation point for high-risk employee relations matters, supporting decision-making that balances legal risk, compliance, fairness and commercial outcomes.
- Interpret and apply modern awards, enterprise agreements, employment contracts and employment legislation to support consistent and compliant people decisions.
- Lead complex and sensitive workplace investigations, ensuring procedural fairness, policy compliance and appropriate risk management.
- Manage and support responses to external employment-related claims and disputes, including matters before the Fair Work Commission, anti-discrimination bodies and other relevant jurisdictions.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders, external legal advisers and regulators to coordinate advice, information flow, submissions and outcomes.
- Support enterprise bargaining and industrial negotiations, including interpretation of existing agreements, risk assessment and procedural requirements.
- Contribute to bargaining strategy, agreement documentation, briefings and governance materials aligned to organisational, workforce and financial objectives.
- Identify emerging trends, risks and learnings from employee relations and external claims matters to support preventative strategies, policy improvement and capability uplift.
- Provide specialist employment law and industrial relations advice to support People & Culture-led and business projects.
- Stay up to date with legislative and award changes impacting employee relations, industrial relations and payroll, sharing timely updates with relevant stakeholders.
What You'll Bring
You’ll bring strong employee relations and industrial relations experience, along with the confidence to provide clear, balanced and commercially practical advice in complex situations including:
- Formal qualifications and experience in Law will be highly regarded, although relevant experience gained within a People & Culture or Industrial Relations environment will also be recognised.
- A deep understanding and practical working knowledge of the Fair Work Act, Modern Award system, National Employment Standards and related employment and industrial relations legislation.
- Demonstrated experience managing a range of employment and industrial matters, including disciplinary processes, workplace investigations, enterprise bargaining, restructures and performance management.
- The ability to provide high-quality, customer-centric advice and influence outcomes through clear, confident and professional communication.
- Strong judgement and the ability to balance legal, commercial, operational and employee considerations when supporting complex matters.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines while delivering reliable outcomes.
- Experience preparing responses, submissions and briefing materials for external claims and disputes.
- The ability to build trusted relationships with People & Culture and business stakeholders, helping improve confidence and capability in managing employee relations matters.
