What You'll Do
We currently have a 12-month parental leave cover contract for an experienced Media Advisor to join our Media and Corporate Affairs team to manage the NRMA’s relations with key media, manage reactive media enquiries, devise and execute large public relations campaigns that focus on major policy initiatives and provide strategic support and advice to the NRMA Board and management.
Reporting to the Head of Media, this role is based from our Sydney CBD office. There is a requirement that you must have the flexibility to travel statewide as issues arise and at short notice, as well as the ability to meet strict deadlines to deliver media communications, manage events and initiatives. This role requires 24/7 availability to handle unscheduled media coverage.
Your key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Execute NRMA’s broad campaign strategy and generate extensive media coverage for NRMA’s advocacy, with a focus on regional, industry and metropolitan media
- Identify and execute proactive and reactive media opportunities for NRMA’s advocacy issues
- Provide executive communications support through speech writing and feature writing for internal and external publications
- React and respond to external media interest by devising key messages and brief spokespeople in order to maintain and enhance positive brand values
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key media for the purpose of generating positive media coverage for NRMA
- Advise NRMA Business managers on media communications issues by attending briefing and planning sessions, researching and drafting materials, providing editorial support and developing communications strategies
- Provide extra support to the Media Team to execute advocacy and corporate communications goals when necessary.
What You’ll Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in communication and/or equivalent relevant experience
- 5+ years’ proven experience in print & media, corporate affairs and politics
- Demonstrated success in an organisational communications role, ideally within a large and complex organisation experiencing significant change
- Proven editorial experience of media communications
- Proven experience of managing multiple stakeholders concurrently on a range of issues
- Experience of managing competing interests simultaneously
- Project management and time management skills
- Proven ability to deliver expert recommendations and successful media strategies
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills at all levels in business
- Proven effective strategic analysis, planning and advisory skills, combined with creative problem-solving skills, for delivering successful strategies, solutions and expert recommendations (desirable not essential)
