Strahan is a small town and working port that serves as the gateway to the stunning UNESCO Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Located approximately 4.5 hours from Hobart or Launceston, Strahan Village (part of NRMA Tasmania) is located in the heart of Strahan and offers an abundance of character and unique stories of the area’s pioneering history. With 132 guest rooms, 4 food and beverage outlets and the award winning Gordon River Cruises experience, this unique destination offers every opportunity to fall in love with the charm and beauty of Tasmania’s west coast.
What you’ll do:
Reporting to the Group Maintenance Manager and working closely with the General Manager, you'll oversee the day-to-day operation of the maintenance and grounds function at Strahan Village. Leading a team of Grounds & Maintenance Attendants, you'll play a key role in ensuring our accommodation, facilities, infrastructure and guest areas are maintained to the highest standard.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll work alongside your team while coordinating maintenance activities, managing contractors, driving preventative maintenance programs and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. You'll be a self-motivated leader who enjoys solving problems, developing people and taking pride in creating a safe, well-maintained environment for guests and team members alike.
A level of fitness is required to meet the physical demands of the role, along with a resilient, practical and can-do attitude. We're seeking an experienced full-time Maintenance Supervisor looking to make a long-term impact within our business. Staff accommodation is also available.
On a daily basis you’ll:
- Lead, coach and support a team of Grounds & Maintenance Attendants to deliver high standards across the property.
- Coordinate and participate in daily maintenance and grounds activities.
- Organise, prioritise and delegate tasks to maximise productivity and ensure deadlines are achieved.
- Schedule, monitor and complete preventative maintenance programs across buildings, plant and equipment.
- Carry out general maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting across guest rooms, public areas, grounds and back-of-house facilities.
- Assist with building projects, renovations and major repairs, including painting, basic plumbing, mechanical repairs and replacing fixtures and hardware.
- Manage contractors on-site and maintain records for essential services in line with Australian Standards.
- Monitor maintenance resources, equipment and inventory to support efficient operations.
- Manage team rosters, attendance and payroll processes in accordance with employment conditions.
- Provide maintenance advice and recommendations to property leadership.
- Foster a positive safety culture by promoting compliance with NRMA's WH&S framework and proactively managing risks.
- Liaise with internal departments, contractors and external stakeholders to ensure the smooth delivery of maintenance services.
What you’ll bring:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a hospitality maintenance, facilities management or similar role.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience, with a proven ability to lead, motivate and develop teams.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience maintaining buildings, plant and equipment.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating contractors and maintenance programs.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels.
- A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to work autonomously.
- Sound understanding of workplace health and safety principles and risk management.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently while maintaining attention to detail.
Highly desirable:
- Trade qualification, vocational qualification or relevant certifications.
- Previous experience within hospitality, accommodation, tourism or facilities management.
- Medium Rigid (MR) Licence.
- Working at Heights certification.
- Confined Space certification.
