Your Guide to navigating our application process

Spotted a role that catches your eye? Great! Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you smoothly navigate our application process.

Firstly, tailor your resume and cover letter to the position. We love receiving applications that are specific to the job posting and emphasise not only your relevant experience but also how your values align with our commitment to the community, innovation and how we work with others.

Quick tips:

  • Incorporate keywords from the job description to align closely with what we're looking for.

  • Highlight transferable skills, particularly if you're coming from another industry.
  • Keep your cover letter concise, aim for one impactful page that focuses on your unique fit.

Submitting Your Application

Ready to apply? Head over to our online job portal under 'View Opportunities' to submit your application. Double-check that all your documents are correctly uploaded and formatted, if there’s an option, go for PDF - this keeps your formatting intact, no matter what device it’s opened on. Look out for a confirmation email and check your spam folder if it doesn't appear.

The Waiting Game

After submitting your application, it might take a couple of weeks before you hear back from us, so patience is key. Well try to come back to you as soon as we can though! While waiting, you can set up job alerts on the NRMA site in case new roles come up that also pique your interest.

The Interview Process

Congrats! If you’ve been selected for an interview, that means we see potential in you. Depending on the role, the recruitment process may differ, however it typically starts with a short phone interview with a member of our Talent Acquisition team. They’ll cover the basics, such as your background, why you’re interested in NRMA, and a few questions about your experience.

After the initial screening, you may be invited for one or more interviews with hiring managers or team members. The NRMA is big on our Playbook Values so check them out on our Careers page and expect questions that dive into how you handle various scenarios, especially those involving customer service, collaboration, and adaptability.

Interview tips:

  • Know the job description well and be ready with examples that demonstrate your skills.

  • Research NRMA’s latest projects or initiatives to weave into your responses.
  • Don’t hesitate to ask questions, it shows your interest and helps you decide if we’re the right fit for you.

Background and Reference Checks

If you’ve reached this stage, you’re almost there! Like many organisations, we typically conduct a background check. This might involve verifying your employment history, educational qualifications, and references, some roles may also require a medical assessment. Don’t forget to let your referees know in advance that they will be contacted to talk about your work, they’ll be crucial in this stage.

The Offer and Onboarding Process

If all goes well, we'll make you an offer. Take some time to review it carefully and reach out if you have any questions. After you accept, the onboarding process begins. This includes everything from getting you familiar with company policies to connecting you with your new team. We always put a lot of emphasis on culture, so expect a warm welcome!

Final Thoughts

Applying at the NRMA is straightforward, but preparation is key. Take each step seriously and keep your personality and values front and center. We value candidates who are not only skilled but also passionate about helping the community and demonstrated our Playbook Values, so let that shine through in your application.

Ready to start your journey with the NRMA? Check out our careers page today, we can’t wait to meet you!
