Deb’s recipe for career success
At the NRMA, we celebrate the diverse career journeys of our team members. Today, we're highlighting the inspiring story of Deb McCartney, who transitioned from Head Chef at Murramarang to Assistant Manager at Darlington Beach.
With over 30 years in hospitality, Deb initially aimed for a Food and Beverage Manager role but her expertise quickly led her to become Head Chef. "I’ve been running restaurants and cafes for a long time," Deb reflects. "Taking on the Head Chef role allowed me to continue doing what I love, creating memorable dining experiences."
Deb’s ambitions didn't stop at the kitchen. She seized the opportunity to become Assistant Manager to expand her skills. "I wanted to add another feather to my hat," she explains. "Using my food and beverage management knowledge in a broader role is exciting."
Deb credits her success to her ability to manage high-pressure situations, a skill honed in the hectic environment of professional kitchens. "The kitchen can be volatile, and my experience there has helped me manage stressful situations effectively," she says.
Her advice to anyone considering a change is encouraging: "Do it, don’t be afraid! You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. The opportunities at the NRMA are endless."
